A concealed forest

A concealed forest

At the edge of my childhood neighborhood, there was a wide field. In its center, some towering pine trees were our "forest". Every day, after school, I went to "the forest". I climbed the trees, imagined adventures, absorbed the scents, light flashes, mildew textures, tree barks and mud. Just  like the processes in the forest, these became the soil on which my art grew.

Years have passed, a real estate forest grew on that field. And I left the city and found a different forest. Last summer, a great fire took on to it. The  dramatic flames left seared tree trunks, ashy grounds, colors and smells of a different sphere. surprisingly fast, the green resurfaced. The power of life versus the power of fire.

This work series relates to the forest through three dimensions : the sensual observation of light,  hues, textures and surfaces, the time dimension of change, and my internal experience, one created from fairytails and myths, emotions and memories, a synergy of imagination and reality.

The wood I used was collected from trees after the fire. The works combine clay, iron, copper and different types of coatings.  The paintings are oil on wood.
